He won’t be the next American Idol, but the show’s hardly over for “General” Larry Platt.
The 63-year-old civil rights veteran has become an Internet sensation after performing his original song, “Pants On The Ground” at American Idol Season 9 Audtion.
Platt got popular on the internet after his Wednesday night debut, as his audition hit YouTube and Twitter. Within hours, he had been clicked and tweeted into one of the Internet’s most popular topics.

The general from “American Idol” fame went on “The View” this morning to perform his hit “Pants on the Ground” for a nationwide audience and to discuss his instant fame with Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. He told the co-hosts that he first came up with the idea for “Pants on the Ground” after he was walking in Downtown Atlanta and saw a youth with a pacifier in his mouth and his pants “on the ground.”
When Hasselbeck asked the general about his reaction to seeing himself on “American Idol,” he replied enthusiastically, “Whoa. I got so happy. It made me feel good.” Hasselback explained that many citizens across the country want to join the general in his crusade, including Brett Favre who led his team in a round of “Pants on the Ground” after defeating the Dallas Cowboys. Platt replied, “I want to get these pants up.” General, so do most parents in Atlanta, and we salute you. With You Tube views approaching three million, your message is certainly being heard loud and clear.

Blige in Atlanta. The song, entitled “Pants on the Ground,” not only shares a message (buy a belt, kids!), but it has a catchy beat too. After General Larry’s energetic performance, Simon said, “I have a horrible feeling that song could be a hit.” Mary J. Blige laughed until she cried, and Randy and Kara joined in with Larry on the chorus. In fact, by the end of the day the entire waiting room was getting down to “Pants on the Ground”.
